Overcoming Anxiety in the Business World: Sometimes You Just Have to Get It Done
Jul 06, 2017
We've
all been there. We've all had a thousand intelligent and innovative
ideas that none of us have acted upon because we were, well....scared.
Anxious. Fearful
of rejection and therefore loss of income. Absolutely frightened of the future and what our customers may think of us for trying what turned out to be a less
than great idea.
The
thing is that we can't allow ourselves to be this way about our
business. The very nature of owning a business is to make changes where
necessary and to try
new things in an effort to stimulate growth! In other words, the best
advice is to simply take the risk and get it done.
That's
honestly what it boils down to in business; this is the fork in the
road so many have come to when they have a great idea, but aren't sure
how if they should
make it happen.
If
you want a little help making the decision to go forward or stay where
you are, trying asking yourself a few pertinent questions. What is it
that makes you fearful?
Are these things legitimate concerns? How do you think this will really
turn out should you go through with it (as this could be very different
from the first two questions)? Asking yourself these questions are key
to helping you grow that thick skin necessary
in business, and will help you decide whether or not this idea will
work.
If
nothing else helps, realize this: the nature of business is to take
risks, and failures happen from time to time. Just because a failure
occurs doesn't always
mean the end of the world. Breathe, and make a decision. Don't let your
anxiety paralyze you in the decision-making process.
