Does Therapy Help For Families Too?

There are issues that come with being part of a family, it's a given. There's drama between siblings, drama between siblings and parents, and drama between everyone at some point. However, the issues that aren't resolved can have long lasting effects. Siblings and parents lose relationships with each other, the family is split into parts of who agrees with who, and it's no longer a family. It's a battle, and it shouldn't be and it doesn't have to stay that way. Family is supposed to be there for each other, you and them against the world, not you against each other and the world. Therapy can help families, it can start a rebuild of the relationship you once had with each other, and here's how;

1. Communication Is Required.
At home, communication may be nearly, if not completely, impossible. Everyone is in their room, away from each other or not even at home. Avoiding confrontation and any form of communication, However, Therapy requires you to communicate with each other, it requires you to open up. On your own, opening up is difficult. With someone there, and knowing that everyone is listening and waiting for you to talk makes it easier to do so.

2. Ignoring Each Other Is Impossible.
In a room with a Therapist, with no distractions and with your family, it's impossible to not hear what everyone is saying. It's very difficult to tune them out, even if you try. You may even be happy that you didn't, your family could say something that each other really needed to hear, and you haven't been able to because everyone's been ignoring each other.

3. Hearing Every Side.
There are sides to every story, in a family, everyone has a side. Knowing what everyone has to say about a given situation, or about something that happened that no one wants to talk about, may be the beginning to re-building a friendship and a relationship that you've missed out on. If it doesn't, at least you know what everyone has to say.

4. Understanding Feelings.
Understanding what everyone is feeling will make it easier to be kinder to each other, some may be really hurting, but no one knows it. Understanding what the effect a situation had on someone in your family was, will make understanding them easier. It will also make knowing why they've been acting as they have been, easier.
