Anxiety Relief For Young Adults

Teens and young adults today are facing unique challenges, from the stress of college exams to the pressure of searching for full-time employment. These difficulties can be aggravated by a slow economy, affecting not only one's self-esteem but one's physical health as well. The apprehension of entering a new career combined with the frustration of rejection can easily take its toll.


Even the thrill that comes from leaving home to become independent can be mixed with feelings of trepidation. Concerns regarding financial readiness may be one contributing factor. The burden of financial responsibility can seem especially grave in the wake of mounting college debt. Homesickness may also be at the heart of these emotions. The separation from loved ones is not the only cost when leaving home for the first time. The loss of routine, change in diet and cultural differences all play a part in disrupting one's normal activity.


Regular exercise, a healthy diet and plenty of sleep are all great ways to alleviate stress and reduce or eliminate the symptoms of anxiety. When anxiety persists or is severe, therapy can be a positive addition to your mental health regimen.


Counseling can be beneficial in many ways.

  • Counseling can be a source of validation, bolstering confidence when self-doubt leads to feelings of inadequacy or fear of failure.
  • Behavioral approaches such as CBT can be a valuable resource for coping strategies. Managing stress is an important means to ensure that problems big and small do not compound themselves, interfering with one's ability to manage everyday life.
  • The opportunity to give free expression to one's feelings of anxiety and receive feedback from an objective professional can lighten the burden of excessive worries.
