Loving Your Spouse During a Pandemic

As we are all in this time of uncertainty where couples are being forced to spend day and night with one another, it is understandable that tensions may run high. Finding the balance of giving one another space without appearing closed-off or rude can be difficult but not impossible. There are a few steps that will help you and your spouse live harmoniously with one another.

Communication

First, communicating with your spouse about needing a space where you can relax is the easiest way to avoid stepping on each other's toes. If you have a hobby you like to do, such as reading, listening to music, working out, or even writing, let your spouse know. Remember, giving each other space does not mean you cannot do fun activities together. If you both like working out, run through the neighborhood together.

Find Common Ground

If you or your spouse need structure and balance, set up a chart of when you want certain tasks done and when you want to sit down and relax. The worst situation is getting ready to curl up with a good book just to have your spouse ask you to complete a chore. Setting up a schedule with help both of you complete all necessary tasks while also leaving time for the things you love to do.

Remember Everyone is Stressed

It is necessary to remember that we are not living in ordinary times. People are feeling stressed, worried, anxious, and hopeless during this pandemic. Taking a deep breath when you become frustrated with one another and acknowledging that neither of you has control over this situation will help reduce some stress. It's okay to be worried about the situation our country is in, but please do not take it out on one another. Become each other's support system and you'll make it through this pandemic stronger than before.


Although this time will test relationships, please know that you're not alone. If and your spouse needs guidance, please don't hesitate to contact us.
