Steps to Overcoming Anxiety
Jul 16, 2020
Anxiety comes in many forms and none of them are pleasant. Some symptoms are sweating, fatigue, restlessness, lack of concentration, racing thoughts, impending doom, insomnia, excessive worry, nausea, irritability, and trembling. There are many factors that can cause anxiety such as worrying about the future, over-stimulation, public places, low self-esteem, and lack of control. A few ways to relieve anxiety are:
Chamomile tea: Drinking this tea at any hour of the day reduces stress and relieves insomnia. It relaxes the muscles and soothes the body.
Scent of lavender: a lavender spray, candle, or essential oil can ease anxiety instantly. It's a good idea to carry lavender essential oil with you in case an anxiety attack comes on while you are out. Simply rub a few drops on your wrist.
Positive affirmations: Anxiety can have your thoughts spiraling out of control. As you keep feeding the impending doom and "what ifs", the anxiety grows worse. To stop feeding the worry, replace the negative thoughts with positive affirmations.
-However big the mountain, I can climb it.
-I love myself and I accept myself.
-I am a good person and good things happen to good people, good things are coming my way.
-I can handle whatever comes my way.
-I believe in myself and my abilities.
-Every breath I take fills my soul with ease.
-I have faith that everything will work out.
-I am strong.
-Feelings are just visitors and I let them go.
-I am safe.
-I love myself more every day.
-I am thankful that I get to live another day.
-I am grateful for all that I am and all that I have.
Life will never play out according to strict plans. The key is to understand you can handle any life challenge that comes your way. Tune into your body and repeat these affirmations as many times as you need to while connecting to your breath. Flow with life and focus on the present moment. Remember that stressing yourself out does not solve any problem.
Breathing exercises: 4-7-8 breathing can bring anxiety relief as it relaxes the medulla by giving it a break. Inhale through your nose and silently count to 4, hold the breath in for 7 seconds, and then exhale while silently counting to 8. Repeat twice.
Walking or doing yoga: 10 minutes of yoga or 10 minutes of walking a day will benefit your overall well-being. Any type of exercise will release stagnant energy stored in your body. Walking outside and breathing fresh air will naturally relax you.
Self-confidence: Being around crowds and with many people can be intimidating. The key is to stand in your power and own who you are. When you are confident and comfortable in your skin, it forms a natural shield around you which protects you from any negativity from within.
