Stop Being Your Own Worst Enemy: How CBT Can Help

Are you quietly suffering from depression, feel overwhelmed by anxiety, or are allowing fear to keep you out of the driver's seat in life?

It is OK.

We have all been there at one time or another and I have years of experience with helping people become the best versions of themselves through Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT).

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Briefly, CBT is a therapeutic method that identifies and challenges harmful beliefs and thoughts that disrupt our lives. You know, those assumptions people can take for granted which are detrimental to our well-being. Often, the opinions we form about ourselves pave the way for depression, anxiety, PTSD, or just feeling robbed of an abundant life.

For instance, Beck, Emery, and Greenberg give examples of a few harmful beliefs or thoughts:

  • "It is always best to assume the worst."
  • "My survival depends on me always being competent and strong."
  • "Strangers despise weakness."

Challenging assumptions like these have paid dividends to those suffering from anxiety and depression. People often walk away from a counseling session and find their "aha!" moment, with a new perspective on their difficulties. That is because Cognitive Behavioral therapy puts the cart behind the horse by looking at the fundamental cause of problems.

Consider the analogy: Imagine a bathtub full of water. CBT is the plug, that when pulled, allows the stagnant water to drain so fresh, clean water can replace it.

Don't settle for a stagnant life!
