Seeking Guidance in the Rough Times (Part 2)

Welcome back to the second half of our two-part series on how counseling can help you through the hardest time in your life. Last time, we covered how difficult it can be to deal with laving home or when your loved ones make painful decisions that you'd like to change. This time, we're wrapping up with the stresses of a new job and how it can help to talk to someone you can trust.

Starting a New Job

For many people, there is nothing more stressful than starting a new job. You don't know the people there or what the normal routines are, and you will be easily identified as 'the new guy'. Even if you've been hired into a managing position, one of power and influence, the pressure to perform well in your first few days can be downright exhausting.

This is the perfect time to seek a few sessions of personal counseling to get your thoughts in order and your peace of mind restored before your first day and throughout the first few months as you get settled in. For those who are nervous about seeking a job, counselors can help you improve your interview skills by building your confidence and reminding you to speak up for yourself and your skills. If you're really nervous about stumbling over answers, they may even be willing to practice a few questions with you.

Whether you are in over your head or just worried about the future, professional counseling exists to guide you through the rough patches in life. Many successful, independent adults have a favorite counselor they visit when times get challenging, and simply don't schedule appointments when life is less complicated.
